Isra and Mi’raj is one of the most profound and spiritually uplifting events in Islamic history. Al'Miraj is commemorated on 27 of Rajab. Isra and Mi’raj refers to the miraculous night when Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was taken on a divine journey by Allah. In Isra, the Prophet (ﷺ) traveled from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem. From there, during Mi’raj, he ascended through the heavens, meeting various prophets and witnessing signs of Allah’s greatness.
This extraordinary journey (mentioned in Quran Surah al-Isra 17:1),
Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
Occurred during a time of immense hardship for the Prophet (ﷺ). He had faced rejection, loss, and emotional pain. Isra and Mi’raj served as a powerful reminder that after hardship comes ease, and that Allah’s help arrives in ways beyond human understanding.
One of the greatest gifts of this night was the obligation of Salah (prayer)—a direct connection between a believer and Allah. Salah strengthens faith, nurtures patience, and instills discipline and humility in everyday life.
Charity in the Light of Miraj:
A beautiful and eye-opening narration from the Prophet (PBUH) links this sacred night with the virtue of giving. As reported in Sunan Ibn Majah, he said: “On the night on which I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra), I saw written at the gate of Paradise, ‘Charity brings a tenfold reward and a loan brings an eighteenfold reward”. When asked why a loan exceeds charity, the angel Jibril explained that a beggar may still have some means, while one seeking a loan asks only out of genuine need.
Rajab is one of the four sacred months, where good deeds become manifold. On this auspicious night Muslims are encouraged to do extra worship; offer nawafil, recite Quran, recite durood on Prophet (PBUH), observe fast and most importantly give sadaqah
On a night like Isra and Mi’raj, believers are reminded that elevating the soul requires uplifting others. Just as the Prophet (ﷺ) was raised to the heavens, we are called to raise those around us through compassion and generosity.
Message to be learnt;
In today’s world, where millions face poverty, conflict, and natural disasters, the message of Isra and Mi’raj is more relevant than ever. It calls upon us to strengthen our faith through prayer and to translate that faith into action through charity.
By supporting humanitarian efforts, feeding hunger, educating the underprivileged, and standing with those in crisis, we honor the true spirit of this blessed night.
